After nearly forty years in the business, Chef Tutor John wanted to have the facilities to pass on his knowledge and experience to anyone who has an interest in cooking. It was decided that Rusland Cottage should become the focus for this venture and consequently a bespoke kitchen was built in the grounds of his home.
Whilst much of John’s knowledge has been gained from restaurant kitchens in the UK, he has also worked in Scandinavia and other European countries. Nearer to home, John has taken a number of Summer schools in Marlborough College and was a Partner and General Manager of a country hotel near Swindon. So it may be seen that John’s experience covers a wide area both in terms of where in the world he has cooked and of the catering knowledge he has acquired.
The setting for Rusland Cookery School is a little rural gem set in an otherwise urban area and benefits from being close to local amenities as well as to nearby country walks. The extensive grounds boast a greenhouse and allotment area which supplies both the classes and private dining in the large conservatory attached to the cottage.
Each class provides, individual hands-on participation, demonstration
tasting, printed recipes, knife craft, professional tips, hygiene, safety and cleanliness.
